Financing climate change mitigation and adaptation in developing countries
Environmental impacts are being felt first and hardest by some of the poorest people in the world. The costs of mitigation - that is changing our activities to decrease our use of greenhouse gases - and adaptation, paying for the additional developmental consequences of increased temperatures, will run into tens, if not hundreds, of billions of dollars each year. But where will the money come from?
Answering that question is the purpose of a new report from Stamp Out Poverty, Assessing the Alternatives - financing climate change mitigation and adaptation in developing countries. Written by the new economics foundation, and with support from organisations such as Oxfam, Save the Children and Friends of the Earth, this important new paper assesses 12 proposals, examining and comparing their potential to meet the massive costs of climate change.
