New global goals agreed – but who will pay?

In just one week’s time, more than 150 world leaders are expected to meet in New York to put in place a set of ambitious new goals to combat global poverty. Find out more here.

Pledging to ‘leave no one behind,’ the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will look to address issues such as the lack of clean water, basic education and access to medicines in poorer countries.

Significantly the SDGs also address structural, transformative issues such as sustainability, inequality and climate change, recognising that they are interlinked with the problem of extreme poverty.

But with these goals estimated to cost 3.5 to 5.5 trillion dollars per year (!) we’re asking: where’s the money coming from?
