I'm a sample Snippet

I’m a sample Snippet

I’m nothing but a Post that’s been written for use as a page extra. My ID is 615.

To place me at the top of the right-hand column, all you need to do is add this Custom Field to the page:

Name: right-0-post

Value: ids = 615

Try it yourself

Pick an existing Post (or write your own Snippet) and add it to a side column on the Test page. If you have trouble locating the Custom Field panel, you may need to turn it on in the Screen Options area below the Admin Bar.

  1. Set the Custom Fields Name to right-0-post.
  2. Type ids = and the ID of your post into the Custom Fields Value field.
  3. Click Add Custom Field
  4. Update the page.

Your post categories

Your post categories
Posts can be assigned different categories, and on this site (so far) there are…

  • News: news items, of course! These are all listed on the News page (in “excerpt” form). As with most posts, clicking on the title will take you to a separate page containing the full post.
  • Quote
  • a short quote

  • Front page box content for a box on home page
  • Right post: posts available for inclusion in the side-columns of any page. These are also inherited by descendant pages unless a new (or null) version is specified.
  • SitenotesUsed in the site notes pages

Your list names and values

Available names

  • right-#-list places the list in the right column.
  • left-#-list places the list in the left column.
  • bottom-#-list places the list below the main content.

Associated values

  • cat is the only mandatory parameter and is the ID number of the post category you want to display (see “Categories” below).
  • type indicates how much of each post to display and can take the value: full, excerpts or titles. If not specified, the default value is titles.
  • order indicates whether to list the posts by ascending or descending date order and takes the value: ASC or DESC. If not specified, the default value is DESC.
  • showposts indicates how many posts to list and takes an integer value (or -1, meaning display all). If not specified, the default value is 5.
  • heading specifies an <h2> heading to insert. If not specified, the default value is empty (no heading displayed). Special characters (eg: apostrophes) should be preceded with a backslash: heading=BSR’s History
  • format specifies various codes to modify how the post content is arranged. Eg: if if format contains the character d, then the date is not output.
  • status is used mainly for Events listings. By setting status=future, only fortcoming events will be shown.

Your image sizes

  • Slideshow images for use on the front page must be 735px x 283px
  • Pictures that span the full width of the main column must be 470px wide and preferably 180px high. You can hang pictures narrower than this to either side of the main column – but this is likely to look best if the width is no more than about 280px.
  • Unboxed pictures in the right column should be 235px wide.
  • Unboxed pictures in the left column should be 171px wide.
